Huge congratulations to Stuart Gibbs (Abbotsford)!. He is now an ISU Championship Short Track Referee as advised by ISU today. He joins a very elite group of world wide Referees having achieved the highest certification in our sport.  This is the first time, in the history of BCSSA, that a BC Short Track Referee has reached this level. Well done Stuart on being recognized by ISU as having the skills necessary to officiate at World Cups and World Championships.

BCSSA was very well represented at the 2016 SSC AGM Awards Celebrations.  SSC recognized the commitment and contributions made by: David Reith (Kamloops) as the John Hurdis Outstanding Volunteer of the Year recipient; Lorna Holbech (Abbotsford) as the Jean R. Dupre Outstanding Administrator of the Year recipient and Ted Houghton (Abbotsford) as the inaugural recipient of the Guy Marcoux Officials Mentorship Award.

BCSSA is very proud of these award recipients continuing the strong contribution that all members of BCSSA make to our sport.

The 2016 BCSSA AGM was held the week-end of May 27-29 at the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel and Conference Centre in Richmond. Select this link to view your new Board and Standing Committees.

19 member clubs were in attendance. Special guests for the week-end were Yves Hamelin (Calgary Oval)  and Alison Desmarais (elite pathway short track skater). Yves along with David Morrison  (Richmond Oval) held an interactive session with coaches and delegates Friday evening. A fireside chat with both Yves and Alison on Saturday afternoon was a enjoyed by all.  Lois McNary (SOBC) along with Jacques Thibault spoke to the group about their work successfully introducing SO Athletes around the province to the sport of speed skating.  Their presentation  which included a video, was very inspiring.
