The Short Track Canada Cup Junior Final at the Richmond Olympic Oval (March 20-22, 2020) features the country’s 60 next highest ranked junior aged skaters per gender and is where they can accumulate points towards the end-of-season Canadian junior rankings, which helps identify the athletes that will be nominated to the national team’s NextGen list for the following season.

Academy Learn: Saturday, March 21 10:00am – 12:30pm

BC Speed Skating invites skaters and parents to Academy Learn – hosted by Speed Skating Canada (SSC) NextGen coach Jeff Scholten.  The session will include the skater pathway information to attain SSC NextGen programming; video analysis from Friday’s 1500m races with pack-based strategy and tactics, and live-race analysis from the stands.

Team BCSSA will be back in action on March 28-29, 2020 at the Canadian Youth Short Track Championships – West. BCSSA Provincial ST Coach Nicole Garrido will lead the team to Selkirk, Manitoba, and will be assisted by Sylvie Lloyd. All skaters who intend to participate, if qualified, must submit their online Intent to Participate form by 5pm on Sunday March 8th. No late entries can be accepted! Qualification to Team BCSSA @ CYST is based on results from the BC Short Track Championship.

The inaugural ST Canada Cup Junior Final is being hosted March 20-22 at the Richmond Olympic Oval. Congratulations to Lukas MacDonald, Craig Miller and Emily Coons, who have pre-qualified to Team BCSSA for the competition. Junior-aged skaters who wish to apply to the competition by time must email Chris Acton by February 23rd; include the skater’s best 500m and 1500m time skated in a sanctioned competition between September 1st, 2019 and February 24th, 2020. Please note that skaters cannot compete in both the ST Canada Cup Junior Final and the Canadian Youth Short Track Championship- West.

L2T and T2T skaters who qualified to the 2020 BC Short Track Championship by Cup Points have now confirmed their positions. See the full list of qualified skaters here. Each L2T and T2T age category has two (2) BC ST Championship positions available by time. Times must be skated in a sanctioned competition during the 2019-2020 season, prior to February 28th.
