Bill Kempers (Sardis) has been recognized by the I.S.U and is now an ISU International Short Track Starter!  As well as reaching this esteemed level of certification, Bill is also eligible to be considered as a Starter at World Cups. Congratulations Bill!!  Well deserved recognition of your skills and commitment to our sport.

Huge congratulations to Stuart Gibbs (Abbotsford)!. He is now an ISU Championship Short Track Referee as advised by ISU today. He joins a very elite group of world wide Referees having achieved the highest certification in our sport.  This is the first time, in the history of BCSSA, that a BC Short Track Referee has reached this level. Well done Stuart on being recognized by ISU as having the skills necessary to officiate at World Cups and World Championships.



BCSSA was very well represented at the 2016 SSC AGM Awards Celebrations.  SSC recognized the commitment and contributions made by: David Reith (Kamloops) as the John Hurdis Outstanding Volunteer of the Year recipient; Lorna Holbech (Abbotsford) as the Jean R. Dupre Outstanding Administrator of the Year recipient and Ted Houghton (Abbotsford) as the inaugural recipient of the Guy Marcoux Officials Mentorship Award.

BCSSA is very proud of these award recipients continuing the strong contribution that all members of BCSSA make to our sport.

There is an opportunity for a part-time position within BCSSA of Sport Manager. This is to provide maternity leave coverage and will commence March 15, 2016 and finish March 31, 2017. Click on this link for further details.


Congratulations to Abigail McCluskey (Kelowna) for being named to Canada’s Junior World Long Track Team to compete at the Junior World Long Track Championships in China March 11-13, 2016.  Well done, Abigail. We will be supporting you from afar.


Jamie MacDonald (Ft St James) in just her 4th World Cup won her first ever medal on the circuit earning a Bronze medal in the 1,000m at the World Cup in Dordrecht, Netherlands. Congratulations on this well-earned result, Jamie.


Congratulations to Josie Spence being named to Team Canada to compete at the World Single Distance Long Track Championships in Kolomna, Russia Feb 11-14, 2016. She will be competing in both the 1500m and the Team pursuit.  Good luck Josie!


Congratulations to Fort St John skaters Michelle Kalkman (Female 12) and Yuna Lovell (Female 13) for earning overall Gold Medals and being Age Class Champions at the Canadian Age Class Long Track Championships.

BC was very well represented at this event and kudos to all who skated!

Congratulations to Abigail McCluskey, 2nd overall In the Cdn Jr LT Champs with 1st place in the 3,000m and 2nd places in the 500m, 1,000m and 1,500m. and Carolina Hiller, 5th overall with 2nd places in the 1,000m and mass start and 3rd in the 3,000m and Nicolas Hiller, 3rd overall with 4th places in both the 1,000m and 1,500m. 

In Canada Cup #3, Graham Jacob had a 2nd and 3rd in the 500m and Braden Clouthier placed 3rd in the 1,000m

Huge congratulations to Donna Bilous (Matsqui Blades) being named Canada’s Special Olympic Speed Skating Head Coach to the 2017 Special Olympic World Winter Games in Austria in 2017. A well deserved honour!
